Cad – Glass Technique
CAD/CAM stands for computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing. It is a technology related to the use of computers in the design and manufacture of prostheses. With CAD/CAM technology, it is possible to achieve perfect restorations in a single session without the need to go to the dentist many times.
Cad/Cam is a two-stage system. In the first stage, the images taken from the patient’s mouth with an optical camera are directly recorded on the device and the most suitable prosthesis can be designed by using special software (CAD) on the computer.
In the second stage, the designed restoration is produced by scraping from ceramic blocks with a special device and the restoration is made ready. Manufacturing software (CAM) is also used at this stage. All these processes are carried out with the automation system and the error margin of the system decreases to zero due to the separation of defects that may arise from the laboratory. In this way, the desired prostheses can be produced without any problems and applied to patients, and it becomes possible to produce restorations in approximately 2 hours.
In Which Procedures Are CAD/CAM Used In Dentistry?
It is used in the design and production of porcelain restorations (crowns and bridges, laminates, inlays and onlays, etc.), which are frequently used in prosthetic dental treatment, in a much more harmonious and aesthetic way.
What are the Advantages of CAD/CAM System?
With this technique, the measurement of the teeth is taken by photographing with the help of a camera connected to the computer and the restoration is prepared virtually with the obtained images, which is a reliable method. The sensitivity of the system is at the mycon level and it is not possible to obtain it with traditional methods. Since restorations can be prepared in a short time like 2 hours, time is saved and production quality increases thanks to the fact that every detail can be observed and controlled during the design phase. A perfect aesthetic appearance can be achieved with the CAD/CAM system.
Who Can Prefer the CAD/CAM Method?
People who have limited time or do not want to waste time with the rehearsal stages in traditional methods, who have aesthetic concerns about the construction process of their prostheses and who are afraid of the measurement stage due to the nausea reflex may prefer the CAD / CAM application.
